Kelly Bros | Packing a punch for Brain Tumour Support
Kelly Bros fought for a good cause recently as Sinead Kelly-Barber stepped into the ring to battle not only an opponent in a boxing bout, but also join the fight against brain tumours by raising money for brain tumour support.
Brain Tumour Support is dedicated to providing support for patients, families and carers so that no-one feels alone facing the effects of a brain tumour diagnosis.
They provide individualised and specialist information, guidance and emotional support, at any point from diagnosis and for as long as it is needed.
“I try to support a charity each year, and this year was brain tumour support.” Sinead told us.
“I wanted a challenge that would push my boundaries and when I saw an advert for the boxing at Impact Gym in Bristol, I decided to go for it!
“The first few sessions were really hard and pushed me mentally and physically like nothing I’ve done before. I felt like giving up so many times but the pressure not to let the charity down made me keep going.”
We asked Sinead about fight night, she continued:
“On the night I was surprisingly relaxed and even seeing a big crowd didn’t make me nervous – which is unusual for me. All of the lights and loud music definitely added to the adrenaline. It felt like a bit of a dream being in the ring and I still sort of can’t believe I did it.
“I just want to say a massive thank you for all of the support I received from family and friends and all at Kelly Bros who generously sponsored me – it really made it all worthwhile and I’m extremely grateful. My final thank you is for my coach Danny Butler who was amazing with me and really helped me with confidence.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t win the match, but for me personally it was such a huge achievement to compete. I’m even proud of my black eye which was definitely a talking point at Intertraffic in Amsterdam!”
